Exploring Rome

Travelling in Rome

So, You’re in Rome… What Now?

Fully experience  the city where modern culture and history beautifully collide.

There is something wonderfully real, human, and authentic about the streets of Rome. Around every corner, history rears its rustic, aged head; surrounded by vendors and an overwhelming feeling of “FOMO” (fear of missing out) or making the wrong decision. Before you allow the traveller’s anxiety to creep in, take a second to remember:

You’re in Rome.

Now that you’ve collected yourself and are feeling inspired, let’s explore some options, shall we?

Historic Monuments

Yes, there are a few of note… The Colosseum, located in Piazza Venetia, is one of the world’s most iconic monuments, and it is where the people would gather to watch gladiator events. The Pantheon in Centro Storico is about as well-restored as the Colosseum, and the massive columns holding up this marvel of historical architecture. Throw a coin into Trevi Fountain to ensure a return to this city, and don’t forget to sit down for a breather on the Spanish Steps. You’d be a fool to miss out on Piazza Navona, and the Roman Forum is one of the most important remaining structures from one of civilization’s most important periods. Did I mention that Vatican City is just a few minutes away on the metro? Religious or not, the Vatican’s museums and structures, such as St. Peter’s Basilica, are not to be missed.

Art & Culture

Yes, there will be amazing live music and theatre available in the cultural centres, to be certain. Also, don’t tell me that you weren’t planning on checking out any museums… Rome is one of the global hubs for these concentrated structures of arts and culture. CineCitta Studios, Museo Nazionale Romano, Vatican Museum, Keats-Shelley Memorial House, Galleria Borghese, and the Capitoline Museums are all just around the hypothetical corner. The city offers something for everyone…  Seems like a bit of a waste not to try a couple out.

Food & Drink

Again, yes. Amazing pizza and pasta are available in endless quantities. Try to veer away from the places solely for tourists, and maybe ask for tips from someone who looks like they might be a local. As far as wine, well, if you’re looking for a bit of a night out, don’t miss out on Trastevere, which is richly cultural and offers some of the best nightlife in the city.

Conclusion

Again, you’re in Rome. Have fun. Do what you’ve always wanted to do. “Do As The Romans Do” or don’t– be a proud, loud tourist if that’s your desire. Consult locals, learn a few phrases in the native tongue, and make your experience what you want it to be. Ciao ciao!
